Richard Pryor on Fire [CLASSIC COMEDY OF THE DAY]

I believe the best comedy has a little bit of pain attached to it. In the early `80’s, comedian Richard Pryor lit himself on fire while freebasing cocaine; the man was trying to kill himself. In the aftermath of this incident, Pryor wrote his most classic comedy routine – which appeared in his 1982 performance film, Richard Pryor Live at the Sunset Strip. (Pryor even uses a match to do a comedic impression of the horrific ordeal.)

The classic line from the performance: “When you’re running down the street on fire, people will get out of your way!”
