You should celebrate today because this marks the 90th consecutive week that COED Magazine has brought you “Drinks of the Week!” That’s right, in just 90 short weeks we’ve brought you 270 reviews, mixed drink recipes and countless hangovers. Keeping with tradition, this week we’re featuring three exciting liquor brands, including: Southern Comfort Bold Black Cherry, Pearse Lyon Reserve Whiskey, and Bacardi Dragon Berry Rum. Southern Comfort Bold Black Cherry

Designed to appeal to a wide range of booze enthusiasts, Southern Comfort Bold Black Cherry is a whiskey liqueur infused with natural cherries to deliver an authentic taste that’s said to be both smooth and invigorating. The makers of SOCO Bold Black Cherry tell us that the combination of dark fruits with Southern Comfort is perfectly served with cola to enhance it’s rich, complex flavor. Earlier this week we got the opportunity to taste, test and review SOCO’s newest concoction for ourselves.

Overall: We give Southern Comfort Bold Black Cherry a (Highly Recommended) It’s smooth, sweet and delightfully mixable. TIP: keep this bottle on ice! When chilled it makes for an excellent sipper or shooter. Otherwise, we recommend you ration it for making mixed drinks. Cola works nicely, but cherry cola is ridiculous! All-in-all this is a great addition to SOCO’s ever growing line-up which now includes nine different variations.

MIX IT UP WITH“Cherry Squeeze”

Ingredients:  1.5 oz. Southern Comfort Bold Black Cherry, 1/2 oz. Orange juice, 3 oz. Lemon-lime soda.

Directions:  Pour over ice into a highball glass and garnish with a cherry & orange wheel.

Pearse Lyons Reserve Whiskey

Distilled in dual copper pot stills from Scotland, Pearse Lyons Reserve is the first malt whiskey produced in Kentucky since 1919. Produced in the old-world tradition in the heart of Kentucky, this whiskey is the culmination of years of experience and passion. And luckily for us we had the privilege of putting through the paces a few weeks back!

Flavors: Molasses, cinnamon, honey, oak, hint of lemon
Taste: B+ (Very Good)
Mix-ability: B+ (Very Good)
Buzz Factor: B (Good)

Overall: We give Pearse Lyons Reserve a B+ (Highly Recommended). Whiskey fanatics listen up! This is a man’s drink. When sipping it’s quite smooth initially, but delivers a stinging bite to remind you, yes indeed, this is whiskey! In our opinion this whiskey is best served mixed with loads of ice. In-fact with such simple ingredients of cola and ice we found Pearse Lyons Reserve to be absolutely refreshing on a hot day.

MIX IT UP WITH: “Kentucky Kick”

Ingredients: 1.5 oz Pearse Lyons Reserve Whiskey, 1/2 oz peach schnapps, 1/2 oz dry vermouth, 2 oz pineapple juice, 3 oz  lemon lime soda.

Directions: Pour ingredients into an ice-filled collins glass, and serve.

Bacardi Dragon Berry Rum

Designed by Bacardi in 2009 to be a versatile base for a variate of mixed drinks, Bacardi Dragon Berry Rum offers the light, fruity flavor of strawberry, infused with the crisp, fresh flavor of dragon fruit. This unique ingredient is an emerging superfruit with a bold, tropical taste that creates a truly exceptional flavor experience when combined with strawberry.

Overall: We give Bacardi Dragon Berry Rum a B+ (Highly Recommended). Wow, this is a taste bud shocker! This rum is undeniably sweet and incredibly well suited for frozen mixed drinks. We love it’s crispness and fruity aftertaste. If you stumble upon Dragon Berry on your next trip to the liquor store we suggest you give it a whirl, it’s absolutely worth the $15 asking price.

MIX IT UP WITH: “Dragon Bite”

Ingredients: 1 1/2 parts Bacardi Dragon Berry Rum, 1/2 part Bacardi Coconut Rum.

Directions: Muddle orange slices in a shaker. Add ice and both liquors. Shake hard and strain into a shot drink glass.
