Film Critics Collide: SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN and PIRANHA 3DD–Are The Critics Amused?

It’s probably going to be a good weekend for Men In Black 3. Snow White and the Huntsman and Piranha 3DD aren’t looking like blockbusters on this Friday morning. Of course, Piranha 3DD isn’t the kind of film that cares about what the critics think. Snow White and the Huntsman, however, reeks of ambition. Both films seem to be something you’re going to love or hate. The movie critics sure have some strong feelings, so let’s enjoy them battling it out…

Snow White and the Huntsman [trailer]
Starring Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth, Charlize Theron
Directed by Rupert Sanders

There’s a lot of visual ambition in Rupert Sanders’ directorial debut. Charlize Theron is pretty much a special effect all in herself. Frankly, it’s going to be a little hard to buy into the idea of Charlize as an evil queen who’s jealous of Kristen Stewart’s beauty. Nothing against Kristen, but even the retelling of a fairy tale should have a little realism. But is that the least of Snow White‘s problems? We’ve got two film critics who seem to disagree:

Piranha 3DD [trailer]
Starring Danielle Panabaker, Matt Bush, David Koechner
Directed by John Gulager

Piranha 3D was more succesful than anyone expected, so it’s time to up the parody, the babes, and the gore content. At least the producers found the right man to direct the film. John Gulager helmed the increasingly insane Feast trilogy, and he’s becoming cinema’s reigning Master of Bad Taste. You’ve also got another batch of fun cameos–including David Hasselhoff, Gary Busey, and Christopher Lloyd. Was all that enough to charm the critics?

Delicious Fun! Brad Miska @ Bloody-Disgusting (of course)

Stinks Like Fish! Matthew Turner @ ViewLondon
