Film Critics Collide: BATTLESHIP Goes After THE DICTATOR

Dark Shadows couldn’t take out The Avengers last weekend, but maybe there’s a chance for Battleship or The Dictator. In a weird twist, Sacha Baron Cohen’s comedy looks to have more momentum at the box-office. Battleship‘s epic tale of seamen battling aliens will still bring in the kids. But which of these films has the critics on their side? Let’s find out–even as we ignore the hot-babes-getting-pregnant romcom What to Expect When You’re Expecting. Our favorite gal this weekend is going to be Maggie Gyllenhaal in Hysteria. That’s a Victorian comedy about the invention of the vibrator. We don’t care what the critics have to say about that one.

It’s the ultimate waterfight as some Navy warships take on evil alien invaders. Everybody’s really wondering how they’re going to work in elements of the classic family game from Hasbro. A lot of fans will be really upset if they don’t get at least a variation on “You sank my battleship!” The movie critics are also giving that some thought, too, but they can have differing reviews on the film:  [image bug via astudio / shutterstock]

The constant promotion for The Dictator has sure been entertaining. That’s why the comedy is heading into this weekend with some serious marketing momentum. Sacha Baron Cohen has also assembled a great supporting cast for his first straight comedy to play American theaters. The trailers have shown off Megan Fox, but the commercials have neglected Anna Faris. But what do the critics think about broad comedy and hot broads? Looks like they’ll have to agree to disagree…
