Antique Vibrator Museum: Will You Be At The Opening?

I was so excited to attend the grand opening of the Antique Vibrator Museum in San Francisco – I got there early. One week as a matter of fact. Yes, this astute reporter actually read the invite wrong and showed up at the Antique Vibrator Museum – 7 days before it opens on April 12th. When I come back to the museum next Thursday, I’ll be treated to an exhibition of vibrators from the late 1800’s through the 1970’s – all which tell an anthropological tale of health, history, and sexuality through the ages. Yes, these antiquated sexual devices would make any Steampunk stand up and say, “Aaaaah!” [lead image credit: SF Gate]

The Antique Vibrator Museum’s collection has been a pet project of Good Vibrations’ founder, Joani Blank – who has amassed this sexual treasure trove for over 20 years; acquiring the bygone vibrator  at such locales as flea markets and estate sales. Curator and Staff Sexologist Dr. Carol Queen will lead the tour and discuss the weird and wonderful origins of that, which is, the beloved vibrator.

“We are delighted to showcase our collection in a dynamic, historic, and entertaining display,” says Dr. Carol. “The new exhibit contextualizes the vibrators’ role in society and highlights how our attitudes around sex and female pleasure have
evolved. It really gives us an appreciation for how far both society and technology have come, and it’s fitting to house the exhibit in the original female-friendly adult retail store.”

Check out the opening for yourself on April 12th, 6-8pm @ Good Vibrations Polk Street, San Francisco.
