Baseball fever is in the air, and nobody flips their wig for the game like Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist George Will. The 70-year-old pundit has once again taken a break from pondering the free market to present an annual baseball quiz worthy of a guy sporting degrees from Oxford and Princeton. (He’s a former Harvard professor, too.) This pop quiz won’t be a surprise to some people, of course. Will has always used his favorite sport as a metaphor for everything from the Constitution to totalitarian societies.
It’s still nice to see the guy indulging himself in the midst of a long string of columns about economic liberty and federalized healthcare. Just don’t expect any questions about Ryan Braun’s batting for the Milwaukee Brewers. Will is strictly old skool. He won’t even wear blue jeans out at the stadium.
