Peavy’s Padres Producing For Their Loyal Leader

Last week, San Diego Padres ace right-hander nixed a trade that would have sent him to the middling Chicago White Sox, and now it appears he might have made the right choice.  The Padres are white hot right now, riding high after a 10-game winning streak. Jake Peavy has been dominant in his two starts during the streak and all of a sudden his team may be poised for a run at the NL Wild Card and possibly the division.  It appears that his teammates have responded to his act of loyalty and are rallying behind their ace after he chose to stick with the team.

While many thought Peavy would welcome the opportunity to get away from a team that lost 99 games last year and hasn’t reached the postseason since 2006, let’s not forget that the White Sox aren’t a shoe-in for a postseason berth.  It is true that they are the defending AL Central champions, have recently won the 2005 World Series, and conveniently reside in perhaps the weakest division in the league.  But Peavy has been a Padre since they drafted him out of high school, and loyalty to his city and organization obviously came first.

Now Peavy’s crew is bouncing back behind him, and the Pads have been the hottest team in baseball over the past two weeks.
