The 68 Greatest Google Doodles For The Company’s 13th Birthday

September 27th is Google's "birthday". In 1998, Google made its debut. Thirteen years later, they're basically running Earth. Over the near decade and a half, Google's displayed a bunch of interesting "Doodles", simple, low-key alterations to their existing logo that subtly call-out an important date in an understated way. So, it makes sense they'd take a "low-key approach" towards their own anniversary. We decided to take much more extravagant approach. Check out our list of the most important Google Doodles and their backstories (of which there are many) after the jump.

10 Images You Should NEVER Search For On Google [NSFW]

While Google Images is indeed the one of mankind's greatest inventions, and the leading cause of low workplace productivity, the search engine can be a cruel mistress given to sudden moments of vicious caprice. An innocuous image search can inexplicably result in a web page rife with the grossest, most horrifying pictures known to man, leaving you to explain to passing co-workers or family members what the hell you're looking at! But which things should you never, under any circumstance, search for in a public setting? Find out by checking out COED's list of 10 things you shouldn't search for on Google images! Harry Houdini Caught In The Act [30 PHOTOS]

It's officially March 24th and in case Google's themed banner on their homepage didn't tip you off, today marks the 137th birthday of America's most legendary and influential magicians of the early 20th century - Harry Houdini. But for all his contributions to stage magic and his immortal legacy, not many people know much about him beyond the fact that he was a master escape artist. Houdini was born Eric Weisz on March 24, 1874 in Budapest, Hungary to Jewish parents and was one of seven siblings. Early in his youth, his family traveled to America and settled in Appleton, Wisconsin before ultimately moving to New York. Learn more about Houdini after the jump!

The Internet Stays Classy On Valentine’s Day [Photo]

I always assumed the internet masses would rather eat a bucket of KFC with Ron "Tater Salad" White than sip an 18 year-old scotch with Charles Bukowski, but this is ridiculous. As displayed in the screengrabs above and below, 9 of the 20 most Googled terms on Valentine's Night 2011 revolved around remarkably unromantic American chain restaurants. Sure, not everyone can have a free Taco Party like the winners of Conan O'Brien's VD Explosion, but if you really want your date to stay open for business, you might want to pony up a couple extra greenbacks for that fancy place down the street. You know the one with the chandeliers and silverware? Stay classy, interwebs and F*** YOU, Economy. See the full list of most Googled terms on Valentine's Night after the jump!

List Of Banished Words For 2011 Is An Epic Viral Fail [POLL]

Just before the New Year, Lake Superior State University released its "List of Words and Phrases Banished from the Queen's English for Mis-Use, Over-Use and General Uselessness", an annual list of terms that should be banned from use for the coming year. The popular list began on Jan. 1, 1976, when former LSSU PR Director Bill Rabe and a group of friends known then as "The Unicorn Hunters" each contributed a few expressions they disliked to form the inaugural list. Since then, LSSU receives well over 1,000 nominations annually through its website, lssu.edu/banished. Check out the 14 words nominated for banishment in 2011 after the jump!
