Georgia Institute of Technology, Freshman

MY COLLEGE KICKS ASS BECAUSE…

Georgia Tech is unique because the school provides so many great opportunities, whether it be educational opportunities, career opportunities, or networking opportunities. I personally believe the best opportunities are the free opportunities. Tech is an institution that gives you the most for your money. There is ALWAYS free food somewhere to be found on campus and there is even a GroupMe dedicated to free food. The atmosphere on campus is also extraordinary—during and after game days. There are so many different people on campus, and even though we’re smart, we can still have fun. Also, not many people can say that the President of the United States came to their campus.

THE MOST MEMORABLE THING I’VE DONE SINCE FRESHMAN YEAR IS…

The most memorable thing I’ve done since freshman year, well so far because I am a freshman, was convocation. All the freshmen assembled in McCamish Pavilion and were given a rundown on the class statistics and what to expect from Tech. After, we closed in an old Tech tradition of putting on our small yellow RAT caps and decorated them with our major, name, graduation year and THWG on the back, which means “to hell with Georgia” referring to our rivals, University of Georgia.

I MAJOR IN…

I’m majoring in environmental engineering, but I also want to pursue a double major in civil engineering as well because I believe it will make me more versatile in the work field; the majors study under the same school here at Tech. I want to focus on water and air sustainability and reduce pollution exponentially. It would also be nice to tell people I’m actively saving the world.

OH YEAH, AND YOU SHOULD PROBABLY KNOW THAT…

One thing I think people should know about me is that if I don’t know something, I will do my best to figure it out, but regardless I will always work hard.

AT SCHOOL, I’M INVOLVED IN…

Currently, I am involved in the National Society of Black Engineers and I hold a chair position under the freshman section of the Society as Historian. I am also a member of the Student Alumni Association in which I’m paired with Georgia Tech Alumni to enhance leadership and professional development skills. I am also a member of Women in Engineering and the Society of Women Engineers.

WHY DO YOU WANT TO BE MISS COED 2016?

I believe Georgia Tech is a wonderful school and I think I would be a great representative for a great institution! And it wouldn’t hurt if we had an awesome party sponsored by COED.

IF YOU COULD GIVE OUR READERS ONE PIECE OF ADVICE, WHAT WOULD IT BE?

One piece of advice I would give is to never be afraid to aim high. When applying to school, a lot of people reminded me there was a small chance of me getting in or that it was okay to transfer, but I applied anyway. The worst that could happen was that I got a no. I always think, “Aim high, miss high.” The higher the goals you set for yourself, the further from the ground you’ll be if you fall.
