Five people are reportedly dead after an AC malfunction forced an evacuation of the Rehabilitation Center at Hollywood Hills.
According to Broward County’s mayor, paramedics and fire-rescue crews were called to the Rehabilitation Center at Hollywood Hills around 7:30 AM after an air-conditioning issue.
Hollywood police spokeswoman Miranda Grossman confirmed that one person died. Furthermore, Broward County Mayor Barbara Sharief said two people died at the facility and three more died at nearby Memorial Regional Hospital.
Hurricane Irma is the suspected cause of the broken air-conditioning.
The Rehabilitation Center at Hollywood Hills is located in the 1200 block of North 35th Avenue in Hollywood, Florida.
Patients were put on stretchers and taken to Memorial Regional Hospital.
