While The Deuce has been available to be streamed on HBO Go for a couple weeks now, the official season premiere airs tonight on HBO at 9 PM EST.
Created by The Wire created David Simons, The Deuce tells the story of the legalization and ensuing rise of the porn industry in New York beginning in the 1970s. Starring James Franco, Maggie Gyllenhaal, and others, the show delves into the violence of the drug epidemic and the resulting real estate booms and busts that coincided with the change.
The official synopsis of The Deuce:
In New York, the violence of the drug epidemic is worsening. Twin brothers, Vincent and Frankie Martino, become fronts for the Mob while operating out of Times Square, which is also the home of “Candy”, a sex worker who turns to the now legal emerging porn industry.
The show, which gets its title from the nickname for 42nd Street between Seventh Avenue and Eighth Avenue, was created and written by author and former police reporter David Simon and his frequent collaborator George Pelecanos. The series pilot began shooting in October 2015 and was picked up to series in January 2016. The first season will consist of eight episodes.
