Andrew Therriault is the former director of data science for the Democratic National Committee who has been criticized by Hillary Clinton for failing to help her with its data in the 2016 election. Now he’s pushing back against the former presidential candidate.
“We set up our own campaign, had our own data operation,” Clinton said, according to CNN. “I get the nomination, so I’m now the nominee of the Democratic Party. I inherit nothing from the Democratic Party. I mean, it was bankrupt. It was on the verge of insolvency. Its data was mediocre to poor, non-existent, wrong. I had to inject money into it.”
Here’s everything you need to know about Therriault.
He Worked for the DNC for Two Years
Therriault worked for the Democratic National Committee for two years.
As can be seen on his LinkedIn page, Therriault began working for the DNC in May 2014 and left in June 2016 shortly before Clinton was named the Democratic party’s nominee for president. Normally, data science teams are tasked with analyzing data and drawing insights from it. Specific to the DNC, Therriault’s job was to gleam insights on American voters that could be used in campaign targeting and strategizing.
Before joining the DNC, Therriault worked for Greenberg Quinlan Rosner, a research-polling-consulting firm in Washington D.C. He served as a senior data scientist from September 2013 to May 2014.
Therriault says in a 2017 Medium article that one of his past experiences was developing a strategy in the campaign against California’s Proposition 32, which concerned financial contributions to political candidates.
He Now Works For Boston
Therriault now works as the chief data officer for the city of Boston. According to Boston.gov, Therriault leads Boston’s Citywide Analytics Team while also working with Chiefs and Commissioners to leverage data science and analytics to improve the quality of live for Boston residents.
One project Therriault works on is CityScore, an initiative that measures the overall health of the city at any given time by aggregating a variety of performance metrics. They make this data available on their website, where visitors can see that the city’s current CityScore is 1.18, with 1.0 being the target.
He Has Denied The Seth Rich Theories
Therriault criticized the conspiracy theories that DNC staffer Seth Rich was murdered for giving sensitive material to Wikileaks. Fox 5 D.C. published a report that he had contacted Wikileaks prior to his murder and shared several documents, popularizing the theory that he was murdered as a result. This claim was proven false when the private investigator quoted in the story reversed course and said he was only basing his comments on what he read on the Internet.
