2000 – 2005

Carlson got his initial start as a journalist during his time as a member of the editorial staff at Policy Review, which is a national conservative journal. Tucker eventually worked as a reporter for the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette and at The Weekly Standard. Aside from those opportunities, Tucker has also been a columnist for New York, Reader’s Digest, Esquire, The New Republic, along with various other notable publications. However, Tucker Carlson’s big break came when he joined CNN’s Crossfire.

On Crossfire, Carlson displayed his invigorated passion as a supporter of the political right. One of Carlson’s most memorable appearances on Crossfire was a heated exchange with then Daily Show host Jon Stewart prior to the 2004 presidential election.

In January 2005, CNN suddenly announced that it was ending their relationship with Carlson due to issues with the partnership.

While Carlson’s show Tucker had already completed its first season on MSNBC, the show ultimately lasted fewer than three season due to low ratings. Although Carlson did host a weekday wrap-up show during the 2006 Winter Olympics, he eventually left MSNBC saying, “They didn’t have a role for me.”

In May 2009, Carlson was hired as a Fox News contributor. He has functioned in a variety roles with the network, from being a guest panelist on the show Red Eye W/ Greg Gutfeld to being a substitute host on Hannity, Carlson is a versatile asset that fits in perfectly with Fox News’ lineup of popular programming.

November 2016 saw Carlson finally get another chance to host his own show, this one titled Tucker Carlson Tonight. 

As of March 2017, Tucker Carlson Tonight is the most watched Fox News program in the 9:00 P.M. time slot. On April 19, 2017, it was revealed that Carlson’s show would take over the 8:00 P.M. time slot following the cancellation of The O’Reilly Factor due to sexual harassment allegations against Bill O’Reilly.
