The Rangers may have some trouble defending The Garden. Both teams enter MSG with a win apiece in their best of seven series. The Rangers started out hot, defeating the Canadiens with a flawless victory of 2-0 at the end of Wednesday’s game.
The New York team looked to be on the path to victory on Friday. As the seconds counted down, the rangers were ahead of the Canadiens 3-2. But then Montreal’s Tomas Plekanec hit the tie-breaker, which pulled the Canadiens out of the jaws of defeat and right into the arms of victory. They ended up defeating the Rangers that night, 4-3.
What’s with the lead? Why would the Rangers have a problem defending their home turf? Well, out of the 16 postseason teams, the Rangers have the worst home record. This New York fell to the Canadiens in both regular-season games at MSG. They may have won their final two regular season games in their own backyard, but that’s after losing eight straight games in the garden.
Rangers forward Rick Nash assured the New York Daily that his team would start off with a clean slate for the playoffs. Nash said, “I think regular season we had our struggles, but this is a new season once playoffs come around, and everything that’s happened before is erased.”
