On Sunday night, the St. Louis Cardinals (1-0) picked up a 4-3 walk-off win over the Chicago Cubs (0-1) to start their season on the right foot. After the 2016 World Series Champions rallied back from a 3-0 deficit to tie the game in the 9th inning on a three-run blast from Willson Contreras, the Cardinals didn’t throw themselves a pity party. They answered in the bottom half of the inning with Randal Grichuk delivering a game-winning, RBI single to send their fans home happy.
For the second game in this three-game series, Jake Arrieta will take the ball for the Cubs and Adam Wainwright for the Cardinals. The 31-year-old Arrieta is one of the top pitchers in all of baseball, as he’s morphed into a beast since getting traded from the Baltimore Orioles to the Cubs. In his four years in Chicago, the righty has won a Cy Young Award, made an All-Star team, and gone 54-21 with a 2.52 ERA and 0.99 WHIP while striking out 630 batters over 634.2 innings.
Wainwright has had himself one helluva career, making three All-Star teams, finishing in the top three in Cy Young voting four times, and winning two Gold Gloves. The 35-year-old is looking to show that he still has some gas left in the tank and can regain his form after back-to-back disappointing seasons. In 2015, the righty was limited to just 28 innings due to rupturing his Achilles tendon. And in 2016, Wainwright went 13-9 with a 4.62 ERA and 1.40 WHIP while striking out 161 batters over 198.2 innings.
Now that the stage has been set, let’s breakdown all of the different ways you can watch tonight’s NL Central showdown.
