The first game of the round of 64 is a classic 5-seed/12-seed showdown between (5) Notre Dame and (12) Princeton. This is a dangerous spot for the Fighting Irish to be in, so they will most definitely be on high alert. There were two 12-seed upsets last year, as Arkansas Little-Rock knocked off Purdue 85-83 in double OT and Yale beat Baylor 79-75. And since the NCAA Tournament field expanded to 64 teams in 1985, 12-seeds have beaten 5-seeds 35.94% of the time.
This will be #14 Notre Dame’s (25-9, 12-6 ACC) third straight March Madness appearance, and the Fighting Irish made quite a bit of noise in their last two tournament trips. Mike Brey’s bunch has made it to two consecutive Elite Eights, and they will be a serious threat in this year’s West region.
As for Princeton, this is their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2011, and they will try to pick up their first March Madness win since they beat UNLV 69-57 in the 1998 first round. But don’t let this lack of recent tournament success fool you, as Princeton can really play. They’ve had an unreal season up to this point, going 20-6 overall, 14-0 in conference play, and winning the first ever Ivy League Tournament.
Now that the stage has been set, let’s breakdown all of the ways you can watch the game.
