The third of four play-in games will take place this evening, as the North Carolina Central Eagles (25-8) will take on the UC Davis Aggies (22-12). The winner of this game will be rewarded with the tall task of facing the Kansas Jayhawks in the 1-seed/16-seed matchup in the Midwest region.

To get to the NCAA Tournament, North Carolina Central won the MEAC Tournament. They earned a double bye and the #1 seed in the tournament after going 13-3 in conference play. The Eagles ran through the competition, beating #9 Bethune–Cookman 95-60 in the quarterfinals, #5 Maryland Eastern Shore 77-49 in the semifinals, and #2 Norfolk State 67-59 in the championship game.

UC Davis’ road to March Madness was a helluva lot tougher than the Eagles. The Aggies finished second in the Big West during the regular season, going 11-5 in conference play. In the Big West Conference Tournament, #2 UC Davis was in a nail-biter in practically every round. They beat #7 Cal Poly 66-55 in the quarterfinals, #3 Cal State Fullerton in the semifinals 66-64 (OT), and #1 UC Irvine 50-47 in the championship game.
