There are a lot of great sororities out there with a lot of beautiful, intelligent and capable women. But when it comes to this particular sorority, these members make a strong case as to why they’re the best in the country. Take a look.
Sorority: Sigma Kapa (ΣΚ)
Founded: November 9, 1874
Notable Alumni: Connie Britton, Margaret Chase Smith, Angela Stanford
Official Website: http://www.sigmakappa.org/
Sigma Kappa was founded by five women at Colby College in 1874 during a time when sororities weren’t getting much love from the mainstream public (what would we do in college without sororities these days?). Yet despite the social obstacles, Sigma Kappa immediately began to flourish and can now be found in at least 40 states across the country. Take that, 1800s.
Sigma Kappa is filled with gorgeous girls that are guaranteed to make your college experience an interesting one. But more than that, Sigma Kappa has contributed to enormous philanthropic efforts over the years. The Sigma Kappa Foundation, established in 1962, has collaborated with the Sea Coast Mission to help communities and ecologies in coastal Maine (where they were founded). Additionally, the organization has been a staunch supporter of Alzheimer’s Disease research and gerontology to help elderly populations. The sorority’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s aims to raise $500,000 annually.
Sigma Kappa boasts a diverse membership committed to not only helping others but also to having as much fun as possible in college. That sounds like a pretty great combination to us.
