The idea of a Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor fight has gone from a fun hypothetical for talk show debates to a very real possibility. According to The Irish Sun, Mayweather and McGregor are ready to make this blockbuster fight happen.
A source close to the Straight Blast Gym star told the Irish Sun: “Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather have agreed a deal to fight and have both settled on their respective fees.
“The contract hasn’t officially been signed yet because of a third party hold-up but all the details have all been agreed on.
“The fight could even be announced within two weeks.”
The speculation is that the UFC is the third party holding things up, as obviously it wouldn’t be good for Dana White’s business if Conor got his ass kicked. ESPN is also reporting that this super fight is almost a done deal, but it’s Stephen A. Smith doing the reporting, so take it with a wheelbarrow of salt.
A potential Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Conor McGregor fight is inching closer, as the former pound-for-pound boxing king told ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith that “we’re getting very, very close” to the super fight.
Mayweather spoke to Smith at Saturday’s Golden State Warriors-Oklahoma City Thunder game. Smith said Mayweather believes that the fight will happen, but Mayweather said nothing is guaranteed until a deal is done.
I don’t know how close Mayweather and McGregor actually are to signing on the dotted line, but I definitely think that they are going to fight. Like the sage Puff Daddy once said, “It’s all about the Benjamins.” This fight would generate an ungodly amount of money, so in my opinion, it’s just a matter of when and not if the bout will take place.
I also wholeheartedly believe that Aoife McGregor should be on the undercard in a K-Y Jelly wrestling match, but that’s an entirely different matter.
