WWE Monday Night Raw: Results, Updates & Must-See Highlights – 01/30/17

WWE Raw: Results, Live Updates & Highlights - Jan 30, 2017

WWE

The Royal Rumble is over and the bromance of KO & Y2J is stronger than ever! Owens overcame Reigns and retained the WWE Universal Championship last night after a bit of assistance from Braun Strowman.

Meanwhile, two Raw championships changed hands last night. Neville captured the Crusierweight Championship from Rich Swann. Neville is now officially “The King of the Cruiserweights.” All hail King Barrett…I mean Neville! By the way, Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson finally won the WWE Raw Tag Team Championship after months of coming up short to the top tag teams (The New Day, Cesaro & Sheamus). And their first big moment exists on a per-show. Kind of a bummer, right?

And we have a new Royal Rumble winner in the form of Randy Orton, but he’s a SmackDown superstar. Now, it’s time to get ready for Monday Night Raw!

WWE Monday Night Raw Results

Stay tuned to find out what happens tonight’s on Monday Night Raw. We’ll be giving you live updates as they happen.

Intro: In-Ring Segment w/ Kevin Owens & Chris Jericho

Owens is elated about his victory over Reigns at the Royal Rumble. He thanks Jericho for all the help and moral support he gave him during the match. KO hugs Y2J. These two are great friends. Jericho brags about his record-breaking cumulative time spent in the Royal Rumble. He spent almost 5 hours in rumble matches over the span of his career. Last night, he spent over 61 minutes in the match. Jericho hashtags 61 minute man.

Strowman’s music hits. The mountain of a man comes down to ring and informs KO that Braun is next in line for a WWE Universal Championship match. Owens looks dumbfounded. Strowman says that Kevin promised him this match. Owens denies promising Stowman anything. Braun proves his claim by showing the audience a video from last month of KO promising Braun that he’ll be next in line for a title opportunity once Roman is out of the picture. Strowman wants the match for tonight.

Foley’s music hits. Mrs. Foley’s Baby Boy looks both hilarious and ridiculous in his green and black checkered suit. KO begs Mick to spare him. He says he’s been through hell and can’t defend the title tonight. Foley says that his trip to hell has a round trip. Owens vs. Strowman for the WWE Universal Championship is booked for later tonight.

Chris Jericho vs. Sami Zayn

Jericho knocks Sami down first, but Zayn fires back. They lock up and Zayn floors Y2J with the arm-drag. Sami lights Jericho up with chomps to the chest. Sami knocks Y2J to the ground with a dropkick through the bottom rope. However, Jericho is a savvy, sneaky veteran and pulls the referee between them to gain the upper hand.

Both competitors trade high impact moves. Jericho hits a springboard dropkick. Sami drops Jericho with a clothesline and later a moonsault off the barrier.

When we’re back from commercial, Jericho executes a sickening enziguri. Sami kicks out of Jericho’s pin attempt. Zayn smacks Y2J with a devastating clothesline. Jericho hits a flawless hurricanrana on Sami. Zayn fires back with an awesome blue thunder bomb. Y2J then gains control and locks in the Walls of Jericho. Zayn looks like he’s going to tap out. But Sami escapes the hold and tangles with Y2J. Zayn drills Jericho with an amazing exploder suplex. Sami puts the #61MinuteMan away with a helluva kick. Sami Zayn just beat the WWE United States Champion. This will probably earn Zayn a future championship opportunity.

Tony Nese vs. Mustafa Ali

Tony Nese decimated Ali with an exposed knee to the face to end this match.

In-Ring Segment: Seth Rollins & Stephanie McMahon

One important piece of news that we learned from this segment: Triple H is on his way to the arena, and he will be looking for Seth Rollins!

Charlotte Flair, Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson vs. Bayley, Cesaro & Sheamus

Bayley pinned Charlotte! Bayley pinned Charlotte! Bayley pinned Charlotte!!!!!

Bayley, Cesaro & Sheamus defeats Charlotte Flair, Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson

Neville & Rich Swann Promo/Fight Sequence

Neville comes down to the ring and berates the crowd for not supporting him. Neville calls himself the King of the Cruiserweights. Rich Swann comes out and tells Neville that he’s delusional and the battle between him and WWE Universe only exists within his mind. However, he does call Neville one of the best wrestlers in the world. He said Neville proved that at the Royal Rumble. They are about to shake hands, but Neville says that Swann needs to bow before the king before offering his hand. Swann denies this brazen request and turns around. Neville reminds him that you don’t turn your back to your king. The King of the Cruiserweights tries to attack Rich from behind, but Swann foresees the attack and strikes first. An epic brawl ensues.

WWE Universal Championship match: Kevin Owens (c) vs. Braun Strowman

Before the match, Braun Strowman assaults Y2J who’s sitting at the commentator’s table. He kicks Jericho right in the chest and then slams him through the table. Owens looks scared sh*tless in the ring.

Strowman dominates most of this match. He makes Owens look like a little shrimp, and KO is no small man by any stretch of the imagination. Owens somehow battles back and cannonballs and kicks Braun senseless. Owens ascends the top rope and looks like he’s going to perform another bullfrog splash, but Strowman grabs KO and powerslams him.

Roman Reigns music hits. I knew it! If the WWE Universal Championship match isn’t the main event then it’s almost a guarantee it will change hands. Plus Reigns wants retribution for Braun costing him the the Universal title at the Royal Rumble. Roman storms the ring and superman punches Strowman.

Braun Strowman defeats WWE Universal Champion Kevin Owens by disqualification. Owens retains.

Post-match: Roman Reigns actually puts the whoppin’ on Strowman (kinda). He knocks Braun out of the ring with a powerful clothesline. Roman rushes Braun; jumping off the steel steps and nailing Strowman with another superman punch.

Breaking News: Brock Lesnar is here!

A limosine approaches and out comes Brrroooccckkkkkkk Leeesssssnnnaaarrrrrr!

In-Ring Segment: Brock Lesnar & Paul Heyman Promo

Paul Heyman had a mic in hand, while Brock Lesnar stands by, looking intense. Heyman compares Lesnar to Andre the Giant, The Undertaker and Ronda Rousey in that they all seemed unstoppable until they find that one opponent who has their number. Andre fell to Hulk Hogan. Rousey fell to Holly Holm. And The Undertaker’s unprecedented WrestleMania streak fell to “The Beast Incarnate” Brock Lesnar. But then Brock fell to Goldberg three times (WrestleMania XX in 2004, and then at the 2016 Survivor Series and last night’s Royal Rumble match). Heyman wants to show the world that Lesnar can destroy the legend that is Goldberg, and silence all doubters who think that Goldberg is the only guy that Lesnar simply cannot beat. He announces that Brock Lesnar will challenge Goldberg one last time. Lesnar vs. Goldberg III will take place at WrestleMania 33.

Breaking News: Brock Lesnar vs. Goldberg announced for WreslteMania 33

Sasha Banks vs. Nia Jax

This is a rematch from last night’s Royal Rumble kickoff show. And once again, Nia Jax completely dominated Sasha Banks. Wow. Sasha’s role on Raw has really sank to new lows. Nia slaps on a crazy-looking submission hold that contorts Banks’ body.

Nia Jax defeats Sasha Banks

Post-match: Jax still has the hold applied after the ref ring the bells. Nia looks like she wants to destroy Sasha. Bayley comes out to the rescue. She doesn’t attack Jax. But Nia retreats anyway. She doesn’t want to fight Bayley…yet.

Tornado Tag match: Enzo & Cass vs. “Handsome” Rusev & Jinder Mahal

Lana announces her husband as “The Bulgarian Brute” and “Handsome” Rusev. Lulz. Enzo & Cass come out, Enzo runs his mouth, and before ya know: we got on a brawl on our hands. Let’s just say that Enzo made a crack about Jinder’s veins and Rusev’s wife. How ya doin’? We gotta take a commercial break.

We’re back from the break: the team of Mahal & Rusev are firmly in control, striking Big Cass in the corner. But Enzo & Cass battle back, and soon Mahal & Rusev are ducking outside the ring. However, when Cass & Enzo go outside to fight, the other guys get the upperhand. Mahal & Rusev team up on the big man, projecting him into the barricade. Then they start pickin’ on the little guy: Enzo. Jinder goes outside and starts stomping Cass.

Jinder and Rusev look like they’re going to win. Mahal looks great; he’s really transitioning from his role as a jobber to the stars. But Enzo & Cass are just too much. One splash from Enzo is all she wrote.

Enzo & Cass defeats Rusev & Jinder Mahal

In-Ring Segment: Triple H wants to destroy Seth Rollins

Triple H comes out and cuts a promo. He says that he gave the whole world on the platter to Seth Rollins and he got spit in the face. He said he picked Rollins from obscurity and made him into a star. Triple H said he’s been trying so hard not to be that guy anymore…that guy who buries careers and kills dreams. For years, he’s slicked his hair back, wore a fancy suit, and was the creator of careers in NXT. But now, he’s going to be a destroyer once again. Rollins doesn’t have to come to his house because he can come down to the ring and get his ass kicked.

Rollins comes out and looks prime for a fight. But then out-of-nowhere, Rollins gets attacked by the debuting Samoa Joe. “The Samoan Submission Machine” brutalizes Rollins. He chokes out Seth and stands over his still body. Samoa Joe is dripping with sweat as Raw goes off the air.

Breaking News: Samoa Joe officially makes his Monday Night Raw debut!
