At today’s Winter Classic between the Chicago Blackhawks and St. Louis Blues, Nelly got the Busch Stadium crowd fired up with a pregame performance. Instead of just introducing the St. Louis native like a normal person, Bob Costas decided to recite some “Hot in Herre” lines. Listen to the super awkward segue in the video below.

Jesus, that was cringeworthy. I’d rather be butt naked in Antarctica than have to ever listen to that again. Costas is a noted rap aficionado, so I’m surprised that went so poorly. We all fondly remember the time he dropped a few Jay Z bars in reference to Robinson Cano signing a monster contract with Roc Nation Sports.

And of course, there was the TV interview where he rapped some Ludacris lyrics. Luda name-dropped Costas in “Hip Hop Quotables,” and Costas seemed to be a fan of the shout-out.

It must have been the cold air that caused Costas’ brain to short circuit today in St. Louis. Tough times don’t last, but tough men do. Costas will be back to his usual, gangster ass self in no time.
