Clemson safety Jadar Johnson met with the media December 27 and was asked what he thought about Ohio State’s quarterback J.T. Barrett. The two teams are set to face off Saturday, December 31 for the PlayStation Fiesta Bowl, with the winner advancing to the National Championship Game on January 9. Jerod Smalley of NBC4 Columbus provided video of Johnson’s comments:
While Johnson made the comments in a subtle and relatively respectful fashion, he likely hopes the comments irked the experienced passer of the Buckeyes. Barrett was named Big Ten Quarterback of the Year this past season and threw for 2,834 yards and 34 touchdowns. He’s also an owner of a National Championship ring from the Buckeyes win over Oregon in 2015.
Moreover, Johnson also alluded to being unimpressed with OSU running back Curtis Samuel saying, “I just don’t think he’s played a defense like we have yet.”
Johnson led the ACC with five interceptions this past season and is likely to be drafted in next April’s NFL Draft.
