We’re right in the thick of bowl season, and the upcoming Citrus Bowl is one of the most intriguing games of the bunch. In the 71st edition of the Citrus Bowl, the #19 ranked LSU Tigers will take on the #15 ranked Louisville Cardinals.
We’ll be witnessing history on December 31, as the Tigers (7-4) and Cardinals (9-3) will be facing off for the first time ever. This will also be the first time LSU or Louisville has ever played in a Citrus Bowl, and it will be the first bowl game for LSU head coach Ed Orgeron.
While there will be plenty of cherries popped in this game, LSU still has plenty of experience playing in big games, as this will be the school’s 48th bowl appearance. The Tigers have gone 24-22-1 up to this point, and they have won three National Championships.
Louisville doesn’t have quite the same pedigree as LSU, but they are no slouches when it comes to playing under the bright lights. This will be the Cardinals’ 21st bowl appearance in school history, and they have compiled a 10-9-1 record.
Now that you’ve gotten a brief history lesson, let’s break down everything about the 2016 Citrus Bowl.
