The Miami Dolphins’ first season was in 1966 as a member of the AFL. They would later join the NFL in 1970 during the AFL-NFL merger. Since the Dolphins’ inception, they’ve always had cheerleaders, but it wasn’t until 1978 when the current version of the Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders were established.

From 1966-1977, the football team was cheered on by the Dolphin Dolls, which was comprised of girls aged 8 to 18. In 1978, Dolphins owner Joe Robbie was pretty much like, “F*ck this noise. Let’s bring some grown-ass women in here and sex things up.” That’s when the Dolphins cheerleading squad that we all know and love was formed. God bless you, Mr. Robbie.

The 2016 unit consists of 36 members, and they whip the crowd into a frenzy at Hard Rock Stadium. When the Dolphins aren’t playing home games, their cheerleaders are very active in the community. They also release annual swimsuit calendars that somehow manage to be more sensual than Eva Mendes was in the “Miami” music video.

Now that you’re familiar with the history of the Miami Dolphins Cheerleaders, check out the hottest photos of these talented young ladies in the gallery below.
