The college football playoff rankings are in for this week and though there any changes at the top four, the order of the teams currently on the outside looking in will create a lot of discussion. With #3 Michigan taking on #2 Ohio State this weekend, there could be some difficult decisions ahead for the playoff comittee.
Washington are currently ranked 5th, moving up one spot after Lousiville’s blowout loss to Houston on Thursday. They’re followed by Wisconsin at 6th and Penn State in the number 7 slot. If Ohio State beats Michigan this weekend, and Penn State beats Michigan State at home then it will be Penn State representing the Big Ten East in that conference’s championship game, so Penn State still has a clear path to the playoff.
One team that is playing as well as anybody right now is USC, who beat up on cross-city rival UCLA 36-14 on Saturday. But USC’s three early season losses are still hindering their chances of making it into the playoff if they could win the Pac-12. The Trojans moved up only one spot since last week, to 12th.
