F*ckin’ Disney man. Pound for pound is there a more successful company in America? Disney owns Marvel Studios and Lucas Films and ABC and ESPN and a bunch of other shit I can’t think of off the top of my head. Point is Disney owns like everything. And even though Disney has own everything for basically ever, they are still about to have their biggest year yet.
Zootopia, Captain America: Civil War, and Finding Dory have pushed Walt Disney Studios to its biggest year ever at the global box office with two months left to go on the calendar.
The Hollywood giant has earned $5.85 billion in global ticket sales through Nov. 1, racing past its previous record of $5.84 billion, which Disney set in 2015. Earlier this year, Disney became the fastest studio to hit $2 billion domestically, $3 billion internationally, and $5 billion globally.
Almost $6 billion and they aren’t even finished yet. We still got about eight or nine weeks left in 2016. Disney could top over $8 billion dollars by the end of the year.
That figure should climb in the weeks ahead. Disney still has several high-profile releases this year, among them Doctor Strange, which hits U.S. theaters on Friday, the family film Moana and Star Wars: Rogue One.
You know Doctor Strange will be good for another $700 or so million. Combine that with the billions Rogue One will make, and the half a billy Moana will bring in, and you have Disney breaking Universal’s single-year record of $6.89 billion.
Must be nice to be The Mouse.
