The Philadelphia 76ers announced that Ben Simmons- the #1 overall draft pick in June’s NBA draft- has suffered a fracture to “the fifth metatarsal bone of his right foot”. The unfortunate news comes with less than a month to go until the start of the season.
Simmons suffered the injury while scrimmaging this morning and then had an MRI and X-ray today to diagnose the injury.
The LSU product’s multi-faceted game had made him a projected starter for the 76ers this season. Simmons has been pegged by draftniks as a potential franchise player for the embattled 76ers franchise, so to see him already suffer a foot injury is disconcerting for the Sixers fans.
Highly touted center Joel Embiid can give his teammate advice about how to deal with this setback. Embiid is expected to play this season after missing his first two seasons due to foot injuries.
The 76ers have yet to announce a timetable for Simmons’ return though past similar injuries to Brook Lopez and Kevin Durant have forced them to miss the majority of an NBA season.
