Charlotte Police Arrested Felon They Believe Killed Protestor Wednesday Night

Rayquan Borum has been arrested for the shooting of 26-year-old Justin Carr, a protestor in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department tweeted out the news this morning.

What Happened?

Justin Carr was shot and killed on Wednesday night outside of the Omni Hotel on Trade Street. Crowds had gathered there to protest the death of Keith Scott, who they believe was killed unjustly by the Charlotte Police Department.

It was at first believed that Carr’s death had also been caused by the Charlotte Police Department, but now that doesn’t seem to be the case. Carr was taken to Carolinas Medical Center immediately, but he died on Thursday. Reports indicate that he had been shot in the head.

Who is Rayquan Borum?

Rayquan Borum is a 21-year-old man who was arrested on Friday morning at 7 AM by the CMPD Violent Criminal Apprehension Team for the shooting of Justin Carr. Borum has been previously arrested for larceny & breaking and entering charges from Mecklenburg County. He served three months for those crimes. He has two pending gun charges that he has yet to face.

Joe Bruno, a contributor for WSOC-TV, tweeted out this photo of Borum’s mugshot.

Our thoughts are with Justin Carr’s family and the peaceful protestors out in Charlotte showing their support and solidarity. I don’t think it’s any stretch to say that things in Charlotte have been chaotic over the past few days and we hope that the violence ends soon.

It’s also important that we remember that Rayquan’s full story hasn’t exactly been made public.
