Over the many years, the games between the Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos have been battles between Andrew Luck and Peyton Manning. With Manning now retired, this week’s game has a much different feel to it. The Colts will be looking to get back on the winning track while Denver will hope that Trevor Siemian can lead the Broncos to another win. This could end up being a high-scoring game if both quarterbacks play to their potential. Here is a look at the matchup.
The Colts lost 39-35 to the Detroit Lions at home in Week 1. Luck threw for 385 yards and four touchdowns as Indianapolis had to play from behind quite a lot in the game. Frank Gore rushed for 59 yards on 14 carries but the key was Luck’s connections with his tight ends. Jack Doyle had two touchdown receptions while Dwayne Allen had a touchdown catch of his own. Luck loves looking to the middle of the field for both of them. The defense for the Colts has to play better against Siemian than they did against Matthew Stafford.
The Broncos were able to pull out a 21-20 win over the Carolina Panthers and will have had more than a week off before this game. Siemian threw for 178 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions. C.J. Anderson had two touchdowns while rushing for 92 yards and had 47 yards receiving. Siemian needs to be much better in this game if the Broncos want to be a playoff contender this season. The defense annoyed Cam Newton last week and now has to deal with Luck. If Von Miller and company can get to Luck, it could be a great day and another win for Denver.
