Today as QB Lamar Jackson led his #10 Lousiville Cardinals to an unexpected 63-20 trouncing of #2 Florida State, a lot of people took notice. Jackson accounted for 5 TD’s and vaulted himself to the top of the Heisman Trophy discussion in the process. In a day when Louisville native Muhammad Ali was honored in his hometown, Jackson floated like a butterfly and stung like a bee.
Among those people who took notice is former Virginia Tech QB Michael Vick, a dual-threat nightmare in college who went on to become the first overall pick by the Atlanta Falcons in the 2001 NFL Draft. Comparisons between the two players who can both dominate with their legs and arm has been rampant, and Vick today gave the true sophomore some extremely high praise.
While I’m admittedly too young to vividly remember Vick at Virginia Tech, I do recall him being a revelation his first few years in the NFL. If Jackson truly is better as Vick suggests- even if the 5x is hyperbole- then Jackson just might be the #future.
It’ll be interesting to see if Lousiville can ascend into one of the coveted top four spots when the polls are released tomorrow afternoon. With Florida State expected to fall, and #1 Alabama struggling so far against #19 Ole Miss, there could be a big shakeup at the top in the upcoming rankings.
