The first week of the 2016 regular season didn’t go well for either the New York Jets or Buffalo Bills as both teams lost their opening game. The two teams will square in Week 2 to open up the action on a short week with a Thursday night battle. It is a key AFC East battle especially with neither team wanting to fall to 0-2 right out of the gate which would likely mean that there would be zero chance to make the playoffs. Here is a look at the matchup.
The Jets lost 23-22 on a late-second field goal to the Cincinnati Bengals. Ryan Fitzpatrick was decent in Week 1, throwing two touchdown passes but only could manage 189 passing yards. New acquisition Matt Forte had 96 yards rushing and five catches for 59 more yards which led the team in both categories. There is no doubt that the defense must be better this coming week as Darrelle Revis got lit up by A.J. Green in Week 1. While Revis will see another talented wide receiver this week, things will return the same unless he gets back to his Pro Bowl-level sooner than later.
The Bills had an even worse opening week with a 13-7 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. The offense was awful as Tyrod Taylor threw for just 111 yards while LeSean McCoy rushed for 58 yards and the team’s lone touchdown. This is a game that Buffalo can win if they can get their offense in gear strictly after seeing what Cincinnati was able to do last week against the Jets. While Sammy Watkins is a gametime decision, his mere presence on the field could do wonders for a Buffalo team that desperately needs to play better and get a win this week.
