Penn State Graduate & THON Volunteer Dies Of Cancer

Andrew Garwood DKE Penn State

Andrew Garwood, a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon and a beloved friend of the Penn State community, lost his 16 month battle with brain cancer just last week. In November, the fraternity held a fundraiser to help cover Garwood’s medical and travel expenses, when DKE brother Shane Varughese called Garwood “one of the most caring and friendly people we know.”

Garwood was fully involved in the community here at Penn State, he was president of his fraternity in 2014, and he danced the entire 46 hours of THON in 2015 while fighting cancer.

DKE held a memorial at their fraternity house for Garwood on Tuesday, January 19th, with music, food, and drinks, to celebrate his life. They lit up the sky with candles in remembrance for an incredible man, brother, leader, THON dancer, and friend. They also put a memory book together for his parents because Penn State meant so much to him and all of his friends and experiences here are very special to his family. They had donation jars so the proceeds will go to his family and donated to THON in Andrew’s name.
