There has been a shooting at Delta State University, according to the Delta State twitter account and an emergency text message sent to students.

At the time this article was written, there is still an active shooter on campus who was spotted near Jobe Hall. Students are asked to keep their doors locked and away from the windows.

Police have confirmed one fatality, and The Clarion-Ledger, citing the county’s coroner, said the person killed was a Delta State professor.
1:27 PM EST Update: Ethan Schmidt is the name of the professor who was shot. He was a history professor.
Delta State University is in Cleveland, Mississippi–and is named after the state’s nickname. It has an enrollment of around 4,750 students and is one of eight publicly funded universities in the state.

The school said Mississippi Highway Patrol, the Cleveland Police Department and the Bolivar’s Sheriff’s Department are on campus responding.
