Jay Cutler Was Nearly Traded To Washington Redskins

Fans of the Chicago Bears have grown to love Jay Cutler over the past several seasons. He almost didn’t make it to the Windy City, however. That’s according to Cutler, who said on his radio show Monday that he nearly ended up being traded to the Washington Redskins in 2009 before the Denver Broncos decided to send him to Chicago. Former Denver coach Mike Shanahan was going to Washington at the time and Cutler wanted to join him there. However, the Bears jumped in and made a better offer to the Broncos which sent the quarterback to Chicago instead. There are plenty of trades that don’t happen every day and it is interesting to hear about one of those failed deals.
Who knows how much different the NFL would be in that trade is made. Washington likely doesn’t get Robert Griffin III and the Bears could still be rotating quarterbacks as they had for the 20 years before Cutler. It would have been a different world with much different results for everyone involved. Who knows if a Super Bowl would have gone a different way or not?
