The relationship you have with the guy dating your sister is always kind of weird. However, when he brings you a can of one of the most sought after and highly rated beers, he becomes “brother in-law in waiting.” This weekend I am enjoying an unbelievable Double IPA brewed by The Alchemist; this weekend Heady Topper is What’s on Tap!
You have to admire a brewery that decides they will only brew one beer! The Alchemist, located in Vermont, has been committed to making Heady Topper one of, if not the, best DIPA in America since 2003. Heady Topper is such a sought after craft beer that residents in Vermont, the only state where it is sold, line up at their local beer distributors at 10 am on Tuesdays to pick-up a four-pack; after drinking one and writing this beer review, I cannot blame them.
Heady Topper provides a burst of hoppy citrus flavor, so much so I am not even sure I tasted all of the different flavors! On each sip I got orange, grapefruit, earthy pine, and some lime/lemon but I am sure there are plenty more! The only aspect that outdoes the hop profile is the beer’s balance and consistency and shocking lack of bitterness; this brew is smooth! Not only is there a distinct lack of bitterness but at only 8.0% ABV to say Heady Topper is drinkable is an understatement.
This weekend I am drinking Heady Topper with some spicy Italian sausage sandwiches covered in a red sauce. The crushed red pepper and heat from the sausage, coupled with the provolone and parmesan cheese, should all compliment Heady Topper very well. So this weekend crack open a can of Heady Topper (if you can get your hands on one) and enjoy one of the finest beers in America!
