It’s virtually impossible to stand out in the entertainment industry anymore, but Taylor Momsen has always managed to find a way to separate herself from the crowd. The actress and musician, who first came to the public’s attention as Cindy Lou Who in the 2000 live action film Dr. Seuss’ How The Grinch Stole Christmas, turns 21 today.
Taylor has been all over the map in the industry, acting in major motion pictures like We Were Soldiers and television shows like Gossip Girl, modeling all over the world since age 14, and fronting the band The Pretty Reckless. She’s also much more musically enlightened than most women her age, citing musical influences as wide ranging as The Who, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Kurt Cobain, and AC/DC.
Known for her raccoon-like heavy eye shadow and a tendency to do outrageous things on stage, Taylor’s embodies the stereotypical wild child persona while still managing to stay fairly grounded and keep her name out of the tabloids. That requires a lot of savvy and gives her a leg up on most other people her age.
