Conan O’Brien has been plugging the hell out of his upcoming cameo in the SyFy Channel movie Sharktopus vs. Pteracuda–and last night, he gave his fans a glimpse of his acting prowess on Conan.
Conan’s cameo features the TBS late night host basking on a beach in the sun with his leggy, blonde assistant being the kind of Hollywood jerk that we imagine all celebrities become when they achieve instant fame. According to the rules of B-movies, that means he’s being set up for an epic, bloody death. An obviously computerized Sharktopus rises out of the water and strikes the late night host. He premiered the cameo that he’s been hyping all this time and uploaded the footage to his Team Coco channel on YouTube.
Check it out–and remember that Syfy has a rule for a minimum number of deaths during a film’s running time, so it wasn’t hard to cram Conan into the script…
The cameo probably would have been funnier and a bigger surprise if Conan hadn’t hyped it so much but it’s still a pretty good scene. It also gave Conan a good excuse to have the film’s producer and movie legend Roger Corman on his show to talk about how he conquered Hollywood by churning out some of the most epic sci-fi and action movies on a shoestring budget.
