The ad campaign for Jake Gyllenhaal’s new movie Nightcrawler launched with some creepy video pushed via Craigslist–and now we’re getting a full trailer that really shows off Jake’s big transformation for the film.
Earlier this week, an ad appeared in the Los Angeles section of Craigslist titled “Hard Worker Seeking Employment.” It appeared to be your standard job hunting ad, but when you clicked the link for the applicant’s video resume, it took you to a YouTube video of Gyllenhaal in character as he excitedly explains his work ethic and philosophy.
That leads us to the new trailer for his upcoming thriller Nightcrawler. He plays a freelance TV news photographer who schlubs down the dirty streets of Los Angeles looking for car accidents and bodies to record with his camera. As the work and competition piles up, so does his need for a bigger body count for his stories. He eventually begins to show just how much of a sociopath he’s willing to become to get a big story and the exclusive footage that goes with it.
Frankly, we could use that kind of guy around the COED offices. Anyway, the film also stars Bill Paxton and Rene Russo, so check out the trailer and get ready to lose a little bit of faith in modern journalism and humanity…
Gyllenhaal has played a lot of creepy characters before such as the mentally disturbed, time jumping teenager in Donnie Darko but this may just be the creepiest role yet. He’s the textbook definition of a high functioning sociopath who makes Nancy Grace look like Mister Rogers.
