There are few logos that are iconic as the Boston Celtics. The team announced a new alternate logo on Monday that looks very similar to the regular logo. The new logo won’t be on any uniforms but it is similar to what was illustrated by Red Auerbach’s brother Zang in the 1960s. It is an interesting look for sure.
It is basically a silhouette of the team’s normal Lucky the Leprechaun mascot. There may be a time where the team decides to use the logo for other purposes but it is a different look on what the Celtics have been using for a very long time. The team will change their road jerseys to say Boston instead of Celtics however along with having a gold tab on their back indicating their NBA titles.
Change always happens though and this is just another one of those changes. The Celtics have had other alternate logos over the years so this one shouldn’t be a major problem since it is just a silhouette though. Who knows what the next move will be? After all, this is part of the team trying to “extend the Celtics brand with a symbol reflecting the rich tradition of the organization.” There’s a lot of rich tradition to screw with there.
