No one on earth hates Jim Norton more than Jim Norton, which only makes us love him more.

The Bayonne, NJ native turn 46 today, and was something of an underground sensation in the late 90s and early 2000s. All of that changed when he landed a spot as a regular on The Opie & Anthony Show. Soon after, he became an HBO regular when he scored both a half hour comedy special and a recurring role on Louis CK’s short-lived but brilliant series Lucky Louie.

His geek stock only went up from there with cameos in Spider-Man, Zack & Miri Make a Porno, and as the voice of Joseph Kaplan in Grand Theft Auto IV. Through it all, Norton has remained his own biggest detractor, weaving an incredibly heavy dose of self-loathing into everything he does. While some people say that comedians like Ellen DeGeneres are funny because they make fun of themselves, Norton takes self deprecation to new heights. So what better way to celebrate his birthday than by roasting him on a spit? It’s the most appropriate tribute imaginable, and the best roast master possible is Norton himself.
