Now that ESPN’s SportsCenter has a fancy new set that looks like something from the set of Minority Report, they don’t need the old, semi-circle shaped desk that’s just sitting in a storage locker somewhere. So they are giving everyone in the world the chance to own a piece of sports broadcasting history.

ESPN announced a new eBay auction in which one lucky fan with a lot of money can own the old SportsCenter desk that ESPN used for more than 32,000 episodes of their flagship show. So far, they’ve received more than 44 bids that have reached over $10,000. You can submit your bids in $1,000 increments if you’ve got the kind of dough to make such an extravagant purpose (first, we’d like to speak you about a loan or a generous donation to cover our mounting bar tabs in exchange for a lifetime of infamy on a college guy blog). All of the money raised from the auction will go to the V Foundation for Cancer Research. Mike Wolfe and Frank Fritz, the stars of the History Channel’s American Pickers, helped get the word out about the auction in this commercial…

Some rich sports fan with more money than sense is bound to scoop it up for way more than the current asking price. So why should ESPN just stop at their old SportsCenter desk? ESPN must have a ton of iconic relics sitting in storage that they could sell like the table Jim Everett flipped while he was trying to kill Jim Rome, Keith Olbermann’s first mustache or the ego that killed Craig Kilborn’s career.
