Aubrey Plaza Life After Beth Trailer

Jeff Baena–the co-writer of David O. Russell’s I ♥ Huckabees–is making his directorial debut this summer with the romantic zombie comedy Life After Beth.

The film stars Parks & Recs‘ Aubrey Plaza (see her hottest GIFs here) as the eponymous young woman who dies suddenly and unexpectedly, leaving her boyfriend Zach (Dane DeHaan) a wreck. When he goes to visit her grave, he finds a giant hole in the ground, and discovers that Beth has come back from the dead. Determined to make things right between them, Zach decides to do and say all the things he hadn’t said to Beth before her death, but he quickly begins to realize that she is not the same Beth as when she was alive. Beth is now slowly turning into a zombie.

So it’s a zom-rom-com? Okay, sure. It looks fairly amusing, and having her slowly transform is a nice twist on zombie lore. Plus the film has a tremendous supporting cast including John C. Reilly, Molly Shannon, Paul Reiser, Cheryl Hines, and Anna Kendrick, and distribution house A24 is behind some of the best independent films of the last year, including Spring Breakers, Under the Skin, Locke, and The Rover. Judge for yourself how this holds up for the studio…
