Amanda Beard on Celebrity Wife Swap

(10:00 PM EST, ABC)

We don’t get too excited over reality shows here at See Her Tonight, but there’s the occasional Celebrity Wife Swap that catches our eye–even if Celebrity Wife Swap is never really the kind of reality television that we’re really expecting for it to be. It’s kind of like misleading advertising.

Anyway, we’ve tuned in before for Kendra Wilkinson, and we’re sure not going to miss out on Amanda Beard tonight. It’s a little painful to think that Spencer Pratt is getting to land Amanda in exchange for his wife Heidi, though. You might remember Heidi & Spencer Pratt from The Hills on  MTV. Yeah, that’s what made them celebrities. In contrast, swim champion Amanda Beard won her first gold medal (and two silver medals) at the 1996 Olympics back when she was 14 years old. She was a little too young to get our full attention back then, but we were sure cheering when Amanda broke the world record in the 200-meter breaststroke during the  2004 U.S. Olympic Swim Trials.

Nobody was surprised when Amanda went on to win the gold in Athens. That was pretty much the peak of her swimming career, but Amanda had a lot more to contribute–including great work as a model for FHM and Playboy, and publishing a memoir titled In the Water They Can’t See You Cry. Don’t forget her turn in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition of 2006. Amanda was pretty great as a sports correspondent  on The Best Damn Sports Show Period, too.  either.

But tonight, we get to see Amanda leave her simple existence behind as she tries on the fabulous life of Heidi Pratt–which we’re going to guess is a lot less demanding than being an overachiever like Amanda Beard. We doubt that Heidi could put together a collection of pics like we have here of Amanda–and while we know that Celebrity Wife Swap won’t get Amanda out of her clothes, let’s hope they find some way to keep her in a bathing suit…
