June 21st may be the first day of summer, but it’s also the first day of sultry songstress Lana Del Rey‘s life. Lana is turning 28 years today as a proper rising star. It’s just kind of weird that Lana Del Rey is also busy trying to convince everyone that she’s actually glad to be alive.
Lana’s turned to Rolling Stone to address a recent UK quote about wishing she was dead. She sure has enough reasons to be enjoying life. Her big break came when she appeared as the musical guest on SNL in 2012 ahead of her album’s release. She followed that up with her first two Grammy nominations, after her earworm “Summertime Sadness” became the anthem of last summer. Or at least the one that didn’t involve Robin Thicke dancing around with topless ladies.
This year, she was hand selected by Angelina Jolie to sing a cover of the Disney classic “Once Upon a Dream” for Maleficent. She performed her hit song “Young and Beautiful” at a pre-wedding celebration at the Palace of Versailles for Kim & Kanye. That’s a huge validation from an artist as narcissistic as Kanye. Her latest album, Ultraviolence, was released earlier this month, and was generally well received by critics, currently sitting at a 74 on Metacritic.
