Dumb and Dumber To is heading to theaters soon and their marketing team has come up with a brilliant promotion. They are letting one lucky duo drive the first movie’s iconic van across the country.
A website popped up today for the new “Mutt Cutts Tour” referring to the company that Harry worked at before he got fired and decided to go to Aspen with his buddy Lloyd. The site lets fans sign up for a contest that will pick two fellas to meet up in New York City where they will pick up the keys to a “mint condition Shaggin’ Wagon,” the car that Harry and Lloyd drove in the first movie and presumably again in the new one.
They will then drive the thing across the entire country to Los Angeles just in time for the premiere of Dumb and Dumber To on Nov. 14. All you have to do is give them an email address and make a video explaining why you would be the perfect driver or passenger for the road trip.
The interesting part is the image that appears on the front page of Harry and Lloyd sitting behind the wheel of the Shaggin’ Wagon. Last week, a couple of blogs posted what they thought was the new poster for Dumb and Dumber To featuring the same exact image but they were taken down rather quickly because they thought someone had doctored some photos to make it look like the poster. Now it appears that it was the actual poster that the studio is using to advertise the new movie. Someone must have leaked it earlier than the studio wanted or something but it’s weird to see so many think that it was fake only to realize it was real. It sounds like someone with a “Harry and Lloyd” grade level of intelligence is running Universal Studios’ marketing department.
