There are certain things that NFL players don’t want in this day and age. The No. 1 thing right now would be making the cover of the latest Madden video game. The cover of Madden NFL 15 is currently having a heated voting competition between Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton and Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman. Panthers coach Ron Rivera obviously knows about the curse of the cover, and said on Wednesday that he has voted for Sherman several times in the last few days.
If you’re more of a gamer than a sports fan, the biggest mythology behind a Madden NFL cover is the curse of a really bad injury after starring in the video game. Rivera obviously doesn’t want any chance of that happening to his star quarterback and would love to get Sherman out of the way for his own team’s chances to make the Super Bowl.
The vote will end on Friday night–and Rivera will be hoping that his many votes against Newton work out in his favor. Otherwise, he may be putting Newton in bubble wrap for the season.
