Alien opened in theaters on May 25th, 1979. That’s not why we celebrate today as Geek Pride Day, but it’s a pretty good excuse. People have been geeking out over Alien for decades. In fact, Alien made sci-fi seem very cool once again. It made for a nice balance against Star Wars mania. And, of course, movie audiences had never really seen an alien like the one in Alien. That’s in large part due to visionary artist H.R. Giger, who’s recently deceased but still discussed below.
