The Internet has been teasing us for awhile with fleeting glimpses of the new Marvel Comics movie version of Guardians of the Galaxy–but we’re finally being treated to a full-length trailer. Which is a big deal for to
us comic-book geeks for giving us the first voicing of “I am Groot!” by Vin Diesel (that’s the only English that the character knows), plus a look at how Guardians of the Galaxy seems to be an old-fashioned space opera that should put George Lucas on notice.
Guardians of the Galaxy is based on the (fairly obscure) comic book series of the same name about a group of interstellar crooks who team up to save the galaxy from an evil overlord named Ronan hellbent on destroying mankind. The film features Chris Pratt as the B-grade celebrity thief named Starlord aka Peter Quill, Zoe Saldana as the sexy assassin Gamora and Dave Bautista as the unhinged warrior Drax. Vin Diesel (as noted) and Bradley Cooper provide the voices for the thug team of Groot and Rocket Raccoon…
Sure, it’s another comic book movie but this one seems to be proud to actually have a sense of humor about its subject matter without being an outright parody of the comic book movie genre. That fact alone should make you want to see it before Zack Snyder’s Batman vs. Superman movie makes comic book movies dark and brooding all over again.
