The course of NFL history may have just changed because of one simple text message. Cleveland Browns quarterbacks coach Dowell Loggains told an Arkansas radio station that Johnny Manziel sent him a text during the first round of the NFL Draft that read, “I wish you guys would come get me. Hurry up and draft me because I want to wreck this league together.” If that was the reason that Cleveland took Manziel, a new medium has been started.
It’s now obvious that Manziel wanted to be in Cleveland–because, well, he wouldn’t have been sending that text message otherwise. Are more players going to be doing this at next season’s draft? The cell phones are going to be flying around with players texting teams begging them to take them with their next pick. It is better than players not wanting to play in a certain city however.
The Browns and Manziel are both very happy now with their situations. The power of the text message has reached a whole new level.
