Some guys are about to feel really, really old. The drop dead gorgeous Linda Evangelista--one of the first supermodels in the world–turns 49 today. Linda was born in Ontario, Canada to Italian parents on May 10, 1965, and was enrolled in modeling school by her mother at age 12 due to her striking resemblance to model and actress Joan Severance.
Linda started her modeling career when a scout from Elite spotted her at the 1978 Miss Teen Niagra pageant, and the aspiring model moved to New York to sign with Elite shortly thereafter. Her career really exploded when she went to France and shot a series of photos with photographer Peter Lindbergh, who famously told her to cut her hair.
Famed photographer Steven Meisel photographed her exclusively for years, shooting all of her covers for Vogue Italia. Linda is also famous for saying, “We don’t wake up for less than $10,000 a day,” in regards to the supermodel life. That was in a 1990 issue of Vogue–which she’s appeared on the cover of a whopping 11 times.
More recently, she signed a deal to become the face of L’Oreal Paris in 2007, and in 2010 became the official face of Talbots. She’s the mother of seven year-old Augustin James, making her one of the hottest moms pushing 50 that we’ve ever laid eyes on. No matter what Linda does in the future, these pictures remind us why guys will be following her to the edge of the earth…
